Pulled pork experience

We love living out here in Colorado. But every now and then we miss some cock an bull, yuengling, lack of wind, and barbecue. So we finally attempted to make some pulled pork this weekend. We researched, planned, and marinated some Boston butt for about 24 hours.

Earlllly (6 am) Monday morning we woke up and prepped the grill, turning it into a delicious smoker. We threw the meat on the grill, stabilized the heat, (after reading the thermometer wrong for about an hour and cooling the grill about 100 degrees off our desired temperature) and sat back to watch our butt cook!

And then we waited... And drank some beer... And smoked some portobello mushrooms...

... And waited some more... And napped... And drank some beer... And had some friends over... And waited... And drank some more beer... And FINALLY, 14 hours later, it was ready.

And damn it is delicious!! Well worth the wait and the beer drank during the wait! I would have never guessed it'd take so long, but tasted amazing for breakfast, lunch, and dinner today.
We hope everyone enjoyed their Memorial Day!! It's finally summer here and we can't wait to enjoy it :)

Impromptu adventure

Happy memorial day weekend!! Tired of the windy weather (60 mph winds) and the JUCO crowds in Junction, we took off towards Montrose, CO for the evening, on an adventure. Truth be told, we just jumped in the car and drove.

We found the Horsefly Brewery and their giant pretzels!

And some crab cakes and calamari... Not very common in Colorado but all gone in this pic.

And maybe a little wine... Not a bad memorial day weekend. Hope you're enjoying your long weekend/ summer (for the teachers out there!!)

Road ride w/ Blaine and Cole

After getting home from camping Sunday I met up with Blaine and Cole at the shop and we set out for a quick little jaunt out to Fruita.

I only took 2 pictures so this is what you get. A shot riding through some rocks and a stop at the CO welcome center in Fruita.

The gps back home looks silly. We took the frontage road along I-70 on the way back, I knew it seemed like it lacked much turning, but it turned out just redonkey straight.

Palisade Ride

Thursday ride out to Palisade...

Rapid Creek Rd once it turns to dirt and heads towards the Mesa. Supposedly this is the old stagecoach road and can be ridden over the Mesa.

Looking from Rapid Creek Rd down on I-70

The 'new' I-70 bridge as seen from the old US Route 6 bridge over the Colorado River.

Possible bocce courts in Palisade? Be still my heart...

Rose Hill Rally

On Sunday Chris, Blaine, Tim, & I met up at 6am, piled into the Brown's Cycles van, and went out to run support at the first rest station for the Rose Hill Rally. The rally is a 50k or 100k ride through the farms and fields from GJ to Mack to support St. Marys Hospital.

After some tire pumping and derailieur tuning we closed up shop a tad late around 11ish.  Tim pulled the always popular "I want to ride but cant because ______ told me I had to do _____".  Overused but effective.  So Chris, Blaine, and I set off with grand goals of passing people like whoa.
 See that face?
Chris and Blaine coming off the 'big' climb of the day outside of Highline Lake S.P.

The route took us out to 10 and Q roads, and despite dreams of seeking the elusive intersection of 1 and Z road, we followed the route and continued not passing people.  We eventually caught a couple who turned out to be frequenters of Browns and were having mechanicals so we joined up and road back to the park with them (and got broom wagon-ed along the way).

All in all it was a great day for riding with plenty of memories extensive tan lines had by all.
